November 27, 2010 Giving Away Wheelchairs To People Who Came From El Paraiso

I received a telephone call this morning telling me...  "There are people looking for your place...  They have come all the way from Danli for wheelchairs"...  I thought to myself, "Might have been nice if they had called me before coming all that way."

So I quickly called a friend and asked if he could put together 4 wheelchairs... He agreed and I met them at his place to give away 

the wheelchairs.

The two men road in the back of the ambulance on hard metal seats sideways, with no air for 2 1/2 hours... Crammed in between the gurney and the seat.  

She and her mom rode in the front of the ambulance.

Here is the ambulance....  I still have no idea how they heard about me or the wheelchairs.  But they all pitched in and came together.  An advance warning telephone call would have been nice.  But then today might not have been exciting if I hadn't been required 

to change all my plans...

January 17 2010 Sometimes It Is The Little Things That We Do To Help Others That Counts

Sometimes it is the small things which we do to help others that helps to make a major change in their lives. My friend and fellow missionary Jeannie Loving, a retired Spanish teacher from Texas, has several projects going in San Lorenzo, El Paraiso, Honduras.

Jose and I helped her by hauling sawdust to one of her practical, small projects. Jeannie takes sawdust and gives it to a lady for her chicken coop. In a couple of months, she will show the lady how to use the compost that results from the mix of chicken manure and the wood particles.

Jeannie and her friends have provided the wire for several people in this small village and each family built their won chicken coop. It was a blessing for us to be able to help Jeannie and her friend.

January 16 2010 Eye Brigade El Paraiso Episcopal Church

We performed exams on 68 people today. We found 5 people who need cataract surgery and next month they will receive free surgeries.

And more Texans. They were so helpful... I am sorry I do not know their names... but they were sent by the Lord and they were a wonderful help to us, I hope they feel the same.

This trip took us more than 2 hours from Tegucigalpa. I am thankful to several donors who have helped keep us in food, gasoline and hotels for these kinds of eye teams.
