June 12, 2008 Aramecina, Aramecina, Valle, Honduras

Today we were in Aramecina, Aramecina. We have been having problems with a certain Diputado (Congressman) because we will not allow him to do his politicking at our medical brigades, so we think he called his friend at the electric company and had the lights cut off to the town where we were working.

This might sound impossible, but everything is possible in Honduras! I live on the edge every day!

We heard thru the grapevine that this might happen, so we stopped and picked up a generator on the way to the local indoor market where we held the eye brigade. We did eye exams on 133 patients and found 26 that need cataract surgery. All in all the day was a huge success! And the bad guy didn't take away the blessing!

Crutches For A Young Man In Need

This young man was involved in an accident that drastically changed his life. His mother asked us to donate a pair of crutches to him (he only had one crutch) and we were able to do so. When we returned a week later, she was surprised and happy.
When we arrived at the mother's house, the son was watching the soccer game. So we went and tracked him down at the soccer field to give him his new crutches. He was thrilled, but the smile on mom's face told it all.
Sometimes when people donate things to us, there do not know how much the things that they donate are appreciated by those in need. If you have crutches, or boots from a broken leg, slings from a broken arm etc. please do not throw these things away. They are badly needed here in Honduras.

Fund Raiser For Chepe's Campaign

Last night was Jose's Fundraiser for his political campaign. It was at La Cumbre, a beautiful restaurant high on a mountain overlooking Tegucigalpa.

Many notables were in attendance including Georgina Alverado de Rizzo and her husband, Paulo Rizzo in the photo at the left.
Jose was all smiles as all of his friends arrived. The dinner was a huge success and Jose showed a slide presentation of all the work that he has been doing in the Department of Valle. The campaign manager for the Vice President was in attendance and was pleased at how Jose is projecting himself through medical projects and helping the poor.
