The Goodness Of God And The Wickedness Of Man

The Goodness of God

Sometime around 1979, I was living in Raytown, Missouri and a newlywed.  I went a few blocks to the corner grocery store and while I was purchasing our food for the week, the Lord spoke to me to buy two heads of lettuce and not one.  I argued with the Lord, but He insisted.  I purchased two heads of lettuce.

I arrived home and about that time my Tupperware lady called and told me that she had just received the order from the party I had held for her the prior week.  I have tried and tried to remember her name, but I don’t remember it, I guess it has been too many years and too much water under the bridge.  Anyway, she called and asked if she could deliver the Tupperware right then, because they were going out of town for vacation to visit the family and she didn’t want to leave the order hanging.

She arrived at my door and as she walked up the steps, I saw her four RED (flaming red) headed boys and her husband in the car all packed and ready to go to visit the folks.  Her husband was in Nazarene seminary at the time to become a pastor.  As soon as I saw them the Lord said to me, “Give them the head of lettuce.”  I began to argue with the Lord as she walked up the front sidewalk with all the Tupperware in hand.  I told the Lord that she would think I was ridiculous if I gave her a head of lettuce.  Anyway, I fumbled around and finally I went to the refrigerator and handed her the head of lettuce, still not understanding why! Just being obedient!

She said, “Thank you!”  Then she said, “Isn’t it interesting how God answers children’s prayers.”  It seems as though that morning she had gone to the grocery store with the kids in tow and bought sandwich supplies to make sandwiches for the road.  When she came to the aisle where she had to buy the tomatoes and the lettuce she had to make a decision.  They were on an extremely tight budget and she could only buy one or the other but not both.  The sandwiches were for the road trip, where they didn’t have to stop at a restaurant and spend a lot of money which they didn’t have.

She asked her four boys what they preferred, “Lettuce or tomatoes?”  One wanted lettuce and the other 3 wanted tomatoes so the lettuce boy lost out.  Rather than being upset, he said, “I’ll pray and God will send me lettuce.”  He did and God did.

As she stood inside my door telling me the story, she and I both marveled at the goodness of God.

God does care about each of us!

Since that time, I try NOT to second guess when I hear that still small voice of the Lord telling me to do this or that.  This is one of the reasons that I love being a missionary in Honduras.  I can listen to the Lord and do things to help others every day!

The Wickedness of Man

Daylight gave way to darkness as I talked to neighbor after neighbor and heard how the MI-04 police car along with a police motorcycle had headed into Colonia[1] Habitat this morning at 6 AM.  This had started as a beautiful sunny morning, now it was 6 PM April 14, 2012 before the dew had dried off of the grass this morning, Boli and Peewee were dead.  Long before the other police cars and motorcycles arrived, the police from MI-04 had chased Boli down and killed him.  While he lie, dead in the grass covering a barely used path to another colonia, the police threw a very alive, but injured Peewee over the back of the motorcycle seat and drove him a click[2] further down the path which runs close to the Penitentiaria Nacional[3] and finished him off, shooting him in the mouth and blowing his brains out of the back of his head.  All this done where they could later say he was running, stopped and then committed suicide.  As the Police Patrol followed behind, they drove through the weeds and when they saw they were close to the chicken farm and almost to the other road, they stopped the motorcycle and killed him.

I breathed in the unique aroma of chicken poop as I stood on the road in front of the chicken farm.  When I had pulled into Colonia Habitat, I was a very suspicious looking white woman with blond hair and blue eyes very out of place.  I had called Ana when I first received the call that the boys were dead and several more missing, injured and arrested.  In Honduras everyone is open game when the police have a hunger for blood.  This idea is so foreign to my United States and Arkansas viewpoint of the world, but after so many years in Honduras, I find myself cringing when visiting on furloughs, when I see police cars driving down the road.  It is a fight or flight response, which is not easy to describe unless you have been in a precarious position where your life floated somewhere between life and death.

My paradigms have shifted.  I used to date a police officer, Detective Allen Quattlebaum in Little Rock, Arkansas where I grew up; he was a wonderful caring individual and was a real Baptist gentleman, except for the fact that he always raced to claim his chair first when we went out to eat; back of the room, with the lengthiest space between us and the front door, his back to the wall, this was always his preferred spot.  I also dated a DEA agent named Mark for a while, I remember his last name but should I use it? After all he was DEA, but maybe after thirty plus years, it doesn’t matter.  I, by and large, had a great respect for police and then I moved to Honduras.

Public opinion is almost unanimous; police in Honduras are not to be trusted.  Gossip runs rampant about many of the deplorable things which the police do, I used to think it was just ugly tales or false accusations invented to strike horror in the heart of a naïve gringa[4], but now I have learned that the truth is the police here are not to be trusted.  They steal, they kill for money and for entertainment, they accept bribes, they demand payoffs, they collude with criminals, they run kidnapping organizations and they steal cars and run them across country lines into Nicaragua using the farm of a disgraced military coronel who has had a warrant out for his arrest for at least a dozen years and yet remains free.  “Uniformados picaros”[5] are the people who help the drug traffickers run their drugs and distribute their drugs throughout Central America and into the United States.

Shaking my head at the disparity between what should be good and what should be evil, I once again watched as the beautiful Honduran sun cascaded through the clouds at sunset, looking out over the Valley of Amarateca to the northwest. Slouching and tired from the sadness of the soul and spirit draining day and from not having a place to rest my recently fractured humerous[6], I stood there slumped over on the back of the SUV listening to a sound of a croaking frog and the eighteenth witness telling us that the police had brutally and heartlessly thrown an injured Peewee, with a bullet through his side on their motorcycle and drove him across rough irregular terrain only to dump him and kill him, setting it up to look like a suicide.

Twenty years ago, I would have questioned this version of how things unfolded this morning, but now after having counted out five patrol cars and five motorcycles and two unmarked white Nissan pickups without car plates and a car from the coroner’s office, I am convinced things are NOT as they seem and most assuredly not what will be reported in tomorrow’s newspaper.  The first patrol car to leave with a motorcycle mounted in the back, stopped and demanded to know what we were doing there.  I was hunched down, hiding behind the tinted windows of my SUV with my back to them but they demanded to know what we were doing, parked on a public street, not bothering anyone.  Ana my partner in some unknown “deleto”[7] got out of the car and announced, I am with the “Fiscal de Derechos Humanos”[8] She was met with an incredulous stare immediately trailed by “ojos de cascabel”[9] and then the police patrol MI-04 slowly rolled away.

I think my first run in with a corrupt policeman was in Nigeria West Africa.  I was doing missionary work in a small town called Ukanafun in Akwa Ibom state.  Everyone knew me, except this one policeman from a different tribe.  I was visiting Moses Umoh, the local tribal chief’s son and a pastor.  I was building a church and school for them and teaching at pastor’s seminars for them.  This policeman asked for my passport.  I was about six block from Moses’ home walking with Moses and had just been in the mayor’s office talking with him about the possibilities of a water project, when this policeman came up and asked for my passport, Moses told him he would go home and get it so I was to go inside the policeman’s office and wait until he came back.

The problem was when I walked into the policeman’s office; he started pulling at me and then almost ripped my blouse off of me.  He was interested in something very different than seeing my passport.  He didn’t know what had happened when I slapped him and pulled away and ran for cover in the mayor’s office bursting in on his next appointment and taking cover behind the mayor’s desk chair where he was sitting.  The policeman came in after me, but by the time he caught up with me the mayor had already seen the tears in my eyes and heard me screaming and terrified.  Since the mayor knew me and knew I was a guest of the tribal chief’s son and a Christian, the policeman was immediately tried and sentenced to death by firing squad.  Not to leave you hanging, I pleaded mercy for him; he was spared and is now a pastor… Anyway this was my first run in with a corrupt policeman and I was naïve enough to think it was a onetime event.  Had I stayed in the USA it probably would have been, but that was not to be.  God called me to be in Honduras.

My two friends were not little angels, but they didn’t deserve to be assassinated.  I guess the saddest part of it all is that when I had shared Jesus with them, neither was “listo”[10] to receive Jesus into their hearts at that time.  I only hope, like the thieves at the cross, they had a split second to ask forgiveness before they died.

Tonight when my friend who works for the Fiscal de Derechos Humanos[11] was doing her inspections, we overheard a policeman stating “comienza la carniceria" [12]  The former, was a threat spoken just loud enough for us to hear and vocalized with the sole intent of trying to frighten us.  As we left, about a block away, there were two men on a motorcycle, which is illegal, and without a tag, which is illegal, and with an automatic rifle in their hands, which is illegal and although I am sure they must have been police, there was nothing identifying them as such.  I had never seen a gun like the one they were carrying.  The stock was squared off both top and bottom and it was very modern looking with holes drilled into it.  The muzzle was somewhat long.  The closest thing I can find to it on the internet is an UZI Sporter, a very deadly but stylish gun.

I picked up speed and flew through the market area, jumping potholes and maneuvering corners as quickly as possible.  I arrived home late having not eaten lunch or dinner, with my cell phone battery dead from over use and my heart heavy, wondering if Peewee and Boli had enjoyed their last meal, kissed their mom goodbye that one last time or kissed their baby or their wife.  I also wondered if the words of salvation which I had sown in their hearts had come to them to remind them to repent as they breathed their last breath.

"The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth" (Gen 6:11-12).

The 2nd Biggest, Longest, Run Around Of My Life

Tonight, I have a headache from tension....  I used to have lots of headaches, however it is rare since I moved to Honduras that I get one.  But tonight is one of those rare occasions.  Before you read this you will need to read the definitions, to understand what is going on.  And you must also remember the LONG LINES every time you go to get your driver's license or your car plate renewed on the last day of the month... then you will begin to have an idea of what I went through today.

Definitions:
Gobernacion - where you get and keep you immigration and residency documents updated if you live in Honduras
Franquisias - the people who supposedly keep track of anything financial pertaining to residents
Constancia - a document stating whatever it is you need stated, signed by someone who supposedly has the authority to sign it
Downtown Tegucigalpa - narrow streets, taxis parked or stopping where ever, buses backing up to jockey around corners, people hitting you with their shoulders as they push past you on the narrow sidewalks, cars parked on curbs, terrible traffic, car exhaust
DEI - Internal Revenue Service
ADUANAS - Honduran customs service
Mordidas - bribes paid to government employees who won't do the work they are paid to do unless someone pays them something which they don't deserve but they want because you are a rich gringo, whether you have a dime in your pocket or not

Gobernacion sent me to Franquisias for a Constancia, I went yesterday and Franquisias said I needed to also bring in a copy of my residency card which I did not have with me.... but today when I went back to downtown Tegucigalpa with the other papers, they said they are not responsible to give me the paper I need, so Franquisias sent me to DEI, but DEI said they don't do what I need so they called ADUANAS, who hung up on them 2 times and finally they sent me to Franquisias AGAIN, but with a note stating that DEI does not do the constancia which I needed.  Now in Franquisias for the 3rd time in 2 days, where the people said, "they don't do the paperwork I need without a letter from Gobernation", who cannot give me the note I need, "until I get the note from Franquisia", so they tried to send me to Gobernacion again so I told them I want it "IN WRITING" which they refused to give me, but I insisted and when they saw that I was not going to give up, now 3 hours after my original encounter with them, they suddenly decided maybe they could do it after all but I needed more paperwork that I didn't have with me... although yesterday they told me what to bring to them, before they said today that they didn't do what they said yesterday they would be happy to do, if I just brought the one missing paper in order for them to do it... So now they need one more paper, which involves paying parking again... crawling through traffic again... getting the paper... crawling through traffic to return...

I did, by the way, have with me the government issued card (which they asked for yesterday) with the same information on it that they said they needed on the other piece of paper which they were asking for today, which they did not ask me to bring yesterday... so I told them to put it in writing that this was the last piece of paper that they needed to do the paper and they refused... "there is no need to have it in writing", they promised to take care of me, "just bring in the last paper"....

By this time over 3 hours and 2 days and 3 trips later, I lost my cool, and who can imagine why?  I told them I don't pay "mordidas" (bribes)... To which they looked offended and said, "But we didn't ask for a mordida!" But it was obvious to me that that is what they wanted, since Gobernacion, DEI, Aduanas, my attorney and the paper I have from Gobernacion, as well as they said yesterday that "they do it", ALL say that "they" are the ones who write the Constancia. So what I am supposed to think?  Hondurans have a saying, "The monkey dances for the one who pays him."

SO I sent my attorney in this afternoon and they told him they would "take the paperwork", but I was "mad" when I talked to them, and they really "don't do" what I am asking them to do, but I have in my hand a paper from Gobernacion saying that this is one of the notes I need from Franquisia.....

The longest run-around of my life took place about 15 years ago, when I went to Puerto Cortez, Honduras to take out of customs 14,000 pair of used eyeglasses which I was donating to the Lions Clubs in Tegucigalpa to give to poor people in their eye clinics.  The man who had to sign the papers insisted that I give him $400 with NO receipt to take the glasses out of Customs and I refused for 2 days.  Finally I told the guard who was assigned to me to bring me a can of gasoline and a box of matches....  When he turned to go get them the man asked what I was going to do... The guard answered, "I think she is going to burn the glasses where you can't steal them."  To which I responded, "And when the ashes are there I am going to call the newspapers where they can take photos and make a report." To which he responded, "Take your stupid eyeglasses and get out of here and I never want to see you again."  I left with my eyeglasses and didn't pay his "MORDIDA".

So if you still wonder why I have a tension headache... You need to join me in Honduras to get some necessary paperwork done sometime...  Do not pray for me for patience... "Tribulation works patience" or so the Bible says and I don't want anymore tribulation!!!  And almost 4 hours of patience, you must admit is a lot for anyone....

August 31, 2010 Good Cops Bad Cops

Policeman Vasquez Corea was shot in the leg and lost his leg as a result. Today I had the blessing of giving him a wheelchair.

Some of his friends at the police station joined in for the photo shoot.

His superior officer Inspector Otniel Molina and I posed for photos. This is the "Good Cop" part of today's post... But all did NOT go well with the police today.

"Bad Cop" I took my doggy (Esther my standard French Poodle) to the beauty parlor today. On the way there, a policeman stopped my car and asked for my license and revision. I gave them to him and then he told me he would have to give me a ticket for having my dog in the car. Supposedly it was illegal. Well for those of you who know me, I never roll over and play dead. I told him in no uncertain terms that there was no such law and argued with him. Now please understand, I respect police. I do not respect corruption and those who practice it.

For those of you who don't know, Honduras police are VERY good at trying to get people to pay them to give their license back instead of wasting a day fighting at the police department after one of them takes the license, because of some "unknown or invented" infraction. It is a game they play. You either offer them a "gift" or they take your license and then you have to spend at least half a day getting it back, when you did NOTHING wrong.

So I challenged him. I told him I didn't believe that there was such a law. So he pulls out his little book and tells me to read law #34. It says, "the conductor cannot drive a car with a pet in their lap which could hinder their ability to drive." So I am thinking what does that have to do with me???? Esther is in the back seat. I am driving in the front seat.

So I asked him to read the law to me... I really believe that policeman #1146 cannot read. (a common problem) I am assuming that this is the policeman's number as he did not have his name tag on his police uniform as required by law and the number was on his vest. (another common problem in Honduras, there is no way to identify cops they do not comply with their own rules and regulations) Anyway, he refused to read it. So I read it to him and I said, I did not have the 50# dog in my lap. She was in the back seat. So this does not apply. So he says to me, "I will have to write you a ticket." By now I am getting frustrated and am thinking how stupid can this guy be.

So I said, "Then I guess I will have to call your boss and I used his bosses name". (the head of Transit Police) So then a car full COBRAS (elite forces police) drove by and shouted at him to leave me alone because, "She helps the police, she works with the COBRAS." He then says to me, "Where do you work? Do you work for the COBRAS?" I just smiled... I am "older", out of shape, North American and he wants to know if I work with the COBRAS... I only wish I had an elite forces body!

Then he said, "I am sorry but I have to write you a ticket." (In Honduran police language that means... give me money or I will not give you your license back.... About that time a car full of police OFFICERS not street cops but the ones with an education, career officers, drove by and started shouting at me, "Hola, Teresita". I responded hollering, "Help me!" To which they gave him a hand signal telling him to leave me alone. They drove off expecting him to be compliant, but instead he tells me that, "JUST THIS TIME HE WILL LET ME GO."

Well a few minutes later after dropping Esther off at the salon, I went and filed a report against #1146. I heard on the walkie talkie as they called him to return to the office. I just bet the next time he will "LET ME GO" also. I HATE CORRUPTION!!!!!!

They (corrupt police)think they are so smart because they do not "cross the line" and ask directly for the money. But I did notice that cars with slick tires with no tire tread passed by and he did nothing. A bus full to the brim with people standing (illegal) drove by and he did nothing. A taxi stopped in traffic and loaded three women and all their bags into his taxi and stopped a lane of traffic... I noticed all this happening as I waited in line for the light to change before he stopped me... But I was the "foreign target".

September 17 El Conchal Eye Brigade No Electricity

This was an interesting eye brigade. I have a saying, "The only thing that you can count on is that nothing will go as planned." This is my motto for Honduras. Somehow we get things done, but it is seldom easy. Today was one of those days. We arrived to find that once again a local politician, who doesn't like us had cut the electricity. He does this regularly because I am an OUTSPOKEN critic of his corruption. Since he is the person who placed the man that is in charge of the local electric department, he just gives him a call, the electricity is cut off to the pueblo where we are working and we have to work with a generator. The first time this happened, I had a dream the night before and the Lord showed me in the dream that there would be no electricity. I stopped and borrowed a generator from a church and went the 15 miles further to find that there was no electricity. The people in the car with me were trying to tell me that, "there was no problem, there was electricity, there were no power outages, etc." The look on their faces when we arrived and there was NO ELECTRICITY was priceless. God is good!!!! See my blog about Diputado Eleazer Juarez.

Waiting for eye exams.
More people waiting on their coke crate improvised chairs.
Victor Montoya performing eye exams.
The clinic was performed at a local school on the front porch with the generator around the side of the building. No bathrooms by the way... well there are bathrooms, I lied... but they have no doors and .... well you can imagine.... it made for a long day, the bumpy roads back to civilization almost shook the pee out of me.

More people waiting and talking. I didn't make of list of the patients this day but it seems we saw about 100 people and there were 13 people with cataracts. They will have surgery the end of the month.

Thank you Martin Family for your donations which help make these clinics possible.

June 18, 2009 World Food Program - PMA Robbery and Corruption Food Stolen From The Poor

I often get angry at the in-justice in this country! Honduras!
Don't get me wrong, I love the country, I love most of the people, but there are times when my hair stands up on end at the audacity of some people as they punish the poor for their ignorance.
This time it was nurses, sworn to protect their patients,
stealing food from them and their small malnourished children instead of helping them.

This was the months supply of food for a family of 5 which was given to her.
The rest was stolen by the people in charge of giving it out.

World Food Program is called PMA in Honduras.
PMA means Programa Mundial de Alimentos.

WFP's strategic plan lays out 5 objectives and all our work is geared towards achieving them. They are:
  1. Save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies
  2. Prepare for emergencies
  3. Restore and rebuild lives after emergencies
  4. Reduce chronic hunger and undernutrition everywhere
  5. Strengthen the capacity of countries to reduce hunger

I found his lady and those below with their families walking on the road with their small bags of food.
Being the curious person that I am, I stopped them and asked where they received the food.
They told me they received the minuscule rations from the local nurses in a small village outside of Coray, Valle.

We had her write a note telling exactly the amount of food which she received.

As God would have it, I just happened to have the local director of PMA in the car with me, we just happened to be on that dirt road going to look at another possible project, and we just happened to run across these ladies on the road and it just happened to be the one time per month which they receive food and it just happened to be the right time of the day which they were walking with their food carefully balanced on their heads.

The "free" PMA bag was sold to her for 25 lempira, ($1.30) which works out to be about 1/4 of a days wages in this area of the country.

Less than 20% of the food which the families were supposed to receive were actually given to them. The nurses "mis-appropriated" the other 80%.  "Mis-appropriated" is the kind Honduran way to say someone is a thief, but not calling them a thief, because they may come after the person speaking and kill them later.

I am not Honduran, I am just here to help and I am furiously indignant!
I wish I could think of a stronger word grouping.
If I was Honduran I would be angrier still at "my" people.

How can anyone steal food from others?

The nurses which stole, have a large salary in comparison to others in the country and especially in comparison to these poor.

They dress up in their best clothes and walk miles to get food rations to keep their children from being severely malnourished.

I have been promised that the nurse thiefs will be relieved of their duties as the people in charge of passing out the food.

I can only hope that is true!

Unreal! Jose has worked so hard, fought an uphill battle and now this!

Honduras is listed on Transparency as 126 of 180 countries that are listed. That means that there are 125 countries in the world less corrupt than Honduras and only 54 countries more corrupt than Honduras.
http://www.transparency.org/

Today I saw what I believe is corruption! Jose is the coordinator for the Department of Valle for the Presidential Campaign for Miguel Nolasco. Jose also is running for Congress on the Liberal ticket with Miguel Nolasco's group.

As the coordinator, he in theory should be given the credentials for the polling booths for the Department of Valle. He has trained people to work at the polling booths and he has them ready to go.

Votes are counted by hand. Each presidential ticket receives 2 credentials for each polling table. So there is a Primary and a Suplente or secondary person at the table at all times. When one leaves to go to the bathroom or to stretch the other takes over the position. In theory, no one can fake votes, or miscount or add extras because there are 2 people from each group watching the table.

When Jose received the credentials for the polling the Presidential Candidate only gave him the Primary person at the table. He then told Jose that he had given ALL of the Suplente credentials to an ONG called Honduras Por La Transparencia.

In just the department of Valle that is 274 credentials. In the entire country this 9,940 credentials. Miguel Nolasco says that he has given those credentials to a Non Government Organization called Honduras Por La Transparencia, however, no one has heard of them.

I called the Tribunal Suprema Electoral and they don't know them.

I called Transparency International in Brussels, Belgium and they have never heard of the group.

I called the DEI and the group is not registered in Honduras, at least not with them.

What does this mean? It means that the credentials were sold, bartered or given away OR it means that someone contacted the presidential candidate and sold him on the fact that they are a real ONG with enough members to fill 9,940 spots at polling tables. He says it is a Christian organization, but no one in the church community has heard of them either.

What else does this mean? It means that Jose must be VERY, VERY CAREFUL on election day, not to lose the race because of corruption.

More Corruption! Charges filed against me for "THREATENING TO KILL SOMEONE!"

Well this is one of those things that might be found in a novel, but never in real life.

Sometimes, I feel like one of the Bible prophets or like Joseph, that was always in trouble and because of no fault of his own. THIS TIME IS NO EXCEPTION. I am doing my work and helping Jose to win the election and I am falsely accused.

Wednesday November the 12th, I interviewed several people for the WORK FOR FOOD program and all in all had a VERY blessed day. That is until I arrived at Pastor Joel Garcia's house in San Lorenzo late in the day.

At exactly 6:29 PM my cell telephone rang and it was an unknown number. I answered it and was met with a male voice on the other end. He said, "I am the Criminal Prosecuting Attorney and I need to speak to Teresa See-are-see." I replied, "I am she." Then he told me that he wanted me to go to the prosecutor's office immediately because he had charges filed against Jose Benavides and I for "threatening to kill someone."

I asked the Fiscal (fiscal is the word for prosecutor) who had filed such crazy charges and he told me he wanted to see me face to face to talk with me and would not tell me over the telephone.

One thing that I have learned living in Honduras is that things are not always exactly like they appear to be. It was dark outside and I made a decision to tell the Prosecutor that I was not coming in to speak with him. I told him I would come in on Friday, with my attorney and not before. He tried to get me to come in alone without my attorney, "just to talk" and maybe this was "just a misunderstanding".

He repeatedly tried to get me to come in but to no avail and finally, when he realized that bullying me wouldn't help, he asked to speak to Jose. I passed the telephone to Jose and Jose agreed to go in to see the prosecutor the following day Thursday at 2:00 PM.

I got off the telephone, got over the shock, got mad, talked to several of my friends and formulated a plan. Then I sprung into action. One of the things which I did was call the police to ask if a report had been filed against Jose or I and I found out that NO report had been filed with the investigative police. Now I was really mad. The man had lied to me!

I called the prosecutor back and he didn't answer his telephone. Angry, I called another fiscal which I know in Tegucigalpa and she agreed to see if he "really" was a fiscal and then to call his office if he was and to talk to him and see what this was all about. She informed me that he was required by law to give me a written summons in order to force me to come in to talk with him. She also informed me that it was crazy for him to call me after 4:30 or 5:00 PM at the latest, because this was after working hours and NOT allowed except under certain circumstances and this didn't meet the criteria. She further stated that his office number stated that he was "out to dinner".

As soon as I hung up from her, the phone rang one time and it was the fiscal returning my telephone call, but he hung up so I had to return the call. I am assuming that he was using his personal telephone and didn't want to use his minutes to speak with me. Yet another clue that things weren't exactly as they were described.

As soon as he answered the telephone, I started grilling him for answers. The first thing I did was ask for his name, he hadn't given it to me in the first telephone call. He said his name is Felipe Osorto and I wrote that down, then I asked for the number of the Denuncia. A Denuncia is the paperwork that we from the USA might call a police report. He started dancing with me on the telephone, trying to keep from answering me, but several times, I repeated the same question and finally he began to tell me that there are several kinds of denuncias and this one was verbal and in order to avoid all of the paperwork, he was "as a courtesy" calling me in to speak with him.

When I found out that he didn't have a written denuncia, I was more than sure that he was involved in corruption and doing some illegal intimidating for a "friend." I told him that if I understood him correctly, he didn't have a written denuncia and he didn't have a case and he didn't have proof and he was trying to call me to come to his office without a written summons and he wanted me to come in after dark. Once again he tried to threaten me with the "trying to save the all the red tape and paperwork excuse" and "trying to keep this from becoming a problem for you" excuse, but I was not buying it. I gave him my address and told him to send me the SUMMONS.

I told him that my attorney told me that he MUST send me a written SUMMONS and that without a formal SUMMONS I would NOT come in to talk to him. I further told him that my attorney said that there was NO REASON that he couldn't tell me who had filed the report and if he was not willing to tell me, then she would call him to find out why he was not willing to tell me. So he told me, Señor Juárez filed the report.

TO THE LEFT IS A PHOTO OF THE FALSE ACCUSER
Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia

Just so you know, the photo was taken off of the internet tonight. It was not a photo which I had taken! (SMILE)

By now, I was furious. It was obvious that this was a "political trick" and this fiscal was trying to intimidate Jose and I. Señor Juarez is really Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia, a political sleazebag (excuse me)who is running for congress again in the Department of Valle, Honduras. He has lied and been deceptive since the day that the campaign started and as a result has made me upset with him on several occasions, so much so that I banned him from coming to my medical teams.

One of the reasons I became upset with him, is that he showed up at my house with a girl "just a friend" on his arm and yet he has a wife and children at home. Then the following week, his wife said to me, "Did you have a good medical team with Eleázar last week?" I told her that I didn't have any kind of medical team with Eleázar and if he told her that I did, she better find out where he was, because he was not with me on a medical team. During the entire hour they were at my house, the 18 year old made eyes at him and touched his leg under the table. Furthermore he told me that the girl was from Amapala but she is really from Transito. He is a confirmed liar.

Another reason for which I do not like the man is that he tried to deceive me into using SMART medical teams to his political benefit. I held the teams in areas where he said that there was "severe need" and then I found out that he was advertising that "HE" was doing the medical teams. Three times I spoke to him about it and three times he lied and said that he would stop the radio advertising and finally I "lowered the boom" on him and told him not to EVER ANNOUNCE ONE OF MY TEAMS AGAIN or I would take legal action and use it to publicity to humiliate him.

Regressing back to last week the Blue Nationalist Party did a poll and in that poll, it showed that Jose "Cobra" Benavides is currently in the number two position as winner of the Red Liberal congressional race in Valle, Honduras. Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia is way below Jose in the polls and has a burr under his saddle about this fact.

For those of you who are not from Arkansas, a cockleburr is a sticker, when one is under a horse's saddle it is very irritating and will cause him to buck. The expression "burr under his saddle" means something that irritates someone enough that they will respond or get angry.

When I found out that it was Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia who filed the complaint, I told the fiscal that he was allowing a lying and corrupt politician to use him in his office as prosecutor and that I would have both of their hides for the attempt to intimidate me. I told him, "If I don't have a summons in writing at my door within the week, then I will file charges against you for corruption." And I further stated that "If Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia has placed false charges against me for threatening to kill him I will file a court case against him for defamation of character and I will win."

Now the fiscal has a problem, he has called me, he has told me the charges and he has told me who had filed them. He knows he has lied to me, because I know that there were NO charges filed, so now I have him running like a dog with his tail between his legs. But running is not enough I am now biting. I told him, "You have until Friday morning at which time I will arrive with my attorney and talk to you." I further told him, "You started this mess and I am going to see it through to a conclusion, I will not be bullied and I will not be falsely accused."

The problem is that Congressman Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia and his corrupt friend Fiscal Felipe Osorto both of Nacaome Valle have not thought their wicked plan all the way through to it's conclusion.

Later Wednesday night another police friend who had heard about the incident called me at 10:39 PM to tell me that Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia had just left the police station where he had filed a report which was pre-time dated to a time which was 2:00 PM, even though the report in truth had been done at 10:00 PM at night. He also told me that the report was logged into the Control Book and that the report before it was time stamped well after 2:00 PM, which is impossible if the report had been logged in correctly and legally. Furthermore, he told me that the report did not mention my name or Jose's name and he told me the name of the witness who is Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia's brother. (How convenient!) My police friend also told me that my telephone number was not in the report. Eleazer's brother is his witness. Also very convenient!

Thursday afternoon as promised Jose went to the Fiscal's office and the Fiscal Felipe Osorto was not there for his appointment with Jose. The fiscal was a NO SHOW!

Friday morning my attorney drove from Tegucigalpa to Nacaome to meet with the Fiscal and when we arrived at his office as agreed, the COWARD was not at his office and the people at the office stated that he was in court. We then went to the Police station to see the "police report" which had been filed after the fact. Later that day, we found out that he was not at court either.

My guess is that after speaking to me the Fiscal Felipe Osorto called Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia and told him that I was going to file a legal suit against him, if he mentioned my name and falsely accused me. Yet, to cover himself the Fiscal needed Eleazer to go in and make a report.

This tool is called a vise. It is used to squeeze something really hard and hold it in a position where it cannot move.

What these false accusers, in their infinite wisdom, had not counted on was the fact that I had called to see if a report had been filed against me or Jose Benavides. They had not counted on the fact that I have been really good to many policemen and have helped many family members of policemen with medical problems. They did not know that I have paid for funerals and weddings for policemen. They did not know that I was just a telephone call away from all the information I needed to know.

Now I have the Fiscal in a vise. He had to have a police report or his "goose was cooked." He knew by the way I talked to him that I was not kidding.

I also have the congressman in a vise. Dr. Eleázar Juárez knew that if he accused me, I would have court charges filed against him rapidly, but now he had his friend the Fiscal in trouble, because he thought they could bully me and threaten me and I would be scared.

The Fiscal needs a report, but the congressman needs to keep from getting sued. They have a double problem. If either one does what the other wants, the other is in trouble. Oh my, isn't it interesting how the truth always floats to the top and how darkness always runs away from light.

What is the answer to their problem? That answer is easy for liars, the answer is to lie some more and create a false report. And that they did. The congressman arrived at the police department after 9:00 PM. I have 5 witnesses to that fact. Most of which are policemen. Upon arrival he looked for the most vulnerable sucker he could find, a young and inexperienced police officer and he talked that officer into taking the report and falsifying the time of the report.

When my attorney and arrived at the police department, we found that there was NO report with my name on it. We also found that there was a report filed by Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia stating that he had been followed by a car and ..... Nowhere in the report was my name or Jose's name or any characteristics that pertain to us mentioned. The attorney and I placed the young policemen who took the report in the hot seat and he had several different answers to the same question.

Policeman:
I came it at 2:00 PM and that was my first report.
Teresa:
If that is true, then why was the report not here when the Fiscal from Tegucigalpa called at around 7:00 PM?
Policeman:
I just got mixed up because that was the time of the incident.
Teresa:
The report says the time of the incidents were 6:00 PM and 1:30 PM nothing says 2:00 PM.
Policeman:
I was somewhere else doing a report at that time so I couldn't have done it at that time.
Teresa:
But you told me that was your first report, so how could you have been doing another report if that was your first one?

At this point I am mad and my attorney tells me that she thinks I should file a denuncia against the Fiscal for corruption and abuse of authority. We start the report with another "more experienced officer" and as he writes the report the young officer continues...

Policeman:
It was about 4:00 in the afternoon when I took it.
Teresa:
Then I am sure that the report immediately before that report in the Control log will show that it was done before 4:00 PM correct?
Policeman:
I made a mistake when I wrote down the time, it was in the evening.
Teresa:
So now we have gone from it was the first report, to it was 2:00 in the 4:00 to it was evening. Were you paid to change the time on the report?
Policeman:
It was just an innocent mistake.
Teresa:
It was an innocent mistake that could cause me legal problems and you didn't think about that did you? You didn't care if you were hurting someone else did you? You didn't care about the truth did you? I think this may end up being a lesson for you if it doesn't end your career.

Telephone rings and it is another police officer who lives across the street and has gotten wind of what is going on and wants to talk to me. I dismiss myself go outside and he tells me what time the congressman was there making the report and tells me that he is more than happy to be a witness for me.

Meanwhile the young officer or his co-workers send someone out to see who I am talking with. They see the police officer talking to me.

I return to the office and report that I have another witness to the time that the congressman made the report.

As we are filing the report we realize that the copy of the report was never sent to the prosecutor. Oh my, how was he calling me for a meeting without a report in hand?

The following is what should have taken place:

  1. The report is made with the police.
  2. Detectives investigate and talk to witnesses.
  3. When they have their case airtight they send a copy along with their investigation to the prosecutor and he decides to investigate more if he thinks the case has merit.
  4. He sends out a written summons for me to appear.
  5. I appear and he makes a decision to prosecute or not.

What really happened:

  1. The lying congressman calls his friend the prosecutor.
  2. The prosecutor calls to intimidate me.
  3. I am not intimidated.
  4. The prosecutor is intimidated.
  5. The prosecutor calls the congressman to go and make a report.
  6. Sometime in the process the prosecutor decides that the report needs to be timed prior to his speaking with me, so they lie.
  7. They get the policeman to lie on the report so now there are three which have broken the law. The congressman for making false accusations, the fiscal for abusing his power, the policeman for falsifying a report.

By the end of the report, the young policeman's hands are shaking in the other room. I am sure his stomach is in a knot. I tell him he has until Monday to come clean with me or I am also filing charges against him in Internal Affairs. By now, the entire police station knows what has happened. We take our copy of the report and promise to give it to the Fiscal General in Tegucigalpa.

My questions are the following:

Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia was out to dinner on that same night in a resturant. I wonder if he was with the Fiscal? I wonder if the Fiscal was being paid with dinner for his telephone call to me?

How did the Fiscal get my name since it was not on the police report?

How did the Fiscal get my telephone number since it is a cellular telephone which is NOT listed under my name and is not in the Police Report?

Since the neither of my cars are similar to the cars listed in the report how did the Fiscal come to the conclusion that it was me who supposedly made a threat against Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia?

Is the Fiscal Felipe Osorto going to take the blame for all of this? Or is he going to crumble under the pressure and tell all on Dr. Eleázar Alexander Juárez Saravia?

How is it that the Police Report was dated and timed for after the telephone call from the Fiscal and yet the Fiscal told both me and the Fiscal from Tegucigalpa that there was no written report?

How is it that the Fiscal was calling me in to talk to me when the report had not been investigated by the DGIC (investigative police) and the report copy in fact had not yet even left the DGIC office to go to the Fiscal? Is the Fiscal telepathic?

There is never a dull moment in Honduras. I feel sometimes like I am going to laugh until I cry at the stupidity of the devil and his servants.

I am so glad that the Lord gave me a good brain to think with and a good heart to love with. I hope to finish my book on FALSE ACCUSATIONS soon.

Today Was A Day In Court

Today's photo is of Esther, my standard French Poodle. She is one of only 5 Standard Poodles in all of Honduras. The others are all her brothers and sisters. I want to breed her, but the nearest male is in El Salvador.

Esther is my constant companion, except at night. At night she is a deserter, she and Jose share Jose's twin bed. She sleeps at his feet and I never see or hear her unless she hears an unusual noise. Then she is "BRAVO". I never knew that poodles were such good watchdogs.

Esther is really intelligent. In Honduras, when someone comes to visit, they enter the house and kiss you on the right cheek. No one taught her, but she stands up on her hind legs and kisses people when they come in the door. She watched and learned. She is totally spoiled and loves spray whip cream out of a can.

Esther is a Honduran Champion and lacks one point being an International Champion.

HONDURAN COURT

The court room hearing today was much as I expected. We arrived early. The judge arrived early and the other party arrived late and since he was only 19 years old, he had to call his mother to come to court, so we had to wait another 1.5 hours.

The judge started reading the paperwork and the corrupt police stated that Jose was at fault, but they also stated that Jose was the one driving the motorcycle. So then the judge walked out of the courtroom and went to find the policeman who then had to re-write the entire accident report. About 30 minutes later, we resumed.

The bottom line is the kid has no money, the mom has no money, the father is not in the picture and the judge found him guilty of driving down the wrong side of the road and following to close and passing where he should not have. He has to pay all of the expenses, but can only pay about $20.00 per month and the expenses are about $550.00 so far and that means 28 months of me having to chase him down every month or I can hire an attorney, put him in jail after who knows how long and go from there.

I arrived home at 1:00 PM wiped out and went to bed. There are some things that I just cannot understand, like why didn't the kid have insurance?

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
