April 16, 2010 Wheelchair Giveaway In Goascoran, Valle

On the way to Goascoran with the boxes of wheelchairs loaded on top of the Land Rover.
Jose Benavides and another volunteer put together wheelchairs.
This young man was determined that he was NOT going to be left out. Before the wheelchairs were ready to be given away, he was already seated and refused to move.
Volunteers help put the wheelchairs together.
This young man is NOT a "happy camper" when his mother takes him out of her arms and places him in the wheelchair.
I took him for a quick spin around the parking lot and he changed his mind. He liked this wheelchair after all.

This young boy is thrilled with his new wheelchair.... But his mom is even more thrilled, she carried him everywhere in her arms.

This week we were blessed to have several doctors from Mayo Clinic visit us in Choluteca, Honduras to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries. This is a photo of the Mayo Clinic team plus Teresa Searcy, Jose Benavides and Cobra Cornilio.

Dr. John Burgoyne also joined us for Ear Reconstructions.

These three are part of the Dr. John fan club... Two of them have already had several surgeries and return to get the final "tweeks". Ear reconstruction is hardly ever done in Honduras so they are thrilled to have the chance to have this surgery.

One of the deformed ears in process of repair by Dr. Burgoyne. There were no sterile fields so we made our own... cutting holes in sterile papers to surround the surgery area.

April 9, 2010 Giving Away Wheelchairs In Tegucigalpa

Today was a wonderful day! We were able to help a lot of people. Renan Inestrosa of Repuesta Por Andar (An Answer To Get Around) and I, along with Vilo Martinez were able to give away a lot of wheelchairs to people in need. A huge thank you is in order to Renan and his group for handling all the paperwork! This work would be impossible without the help of Free Wheelchair Missions.
Renan Inestroza lifts this young lady into her chair.

Vilo Martinez adjusts this young man's feet.

We give nice seat belts to the people which need them, but if we give them to one person they all want one, so we wait until after the others leave and give them their bonus seatbelt.

This young lady is in her teens.  Cases like this make me go home and cry!
