August 21 2009 Wheelchair Giveaway Choluteca

Thanks to all of our supporters. This giveaway was sponsored by the Free Wheelchair Mission, Ernest y Linette Gaudet Trust, the Michael Martin Family, Hotel Flamingo/Sonja & Sergio Lovo and the Jack Deloss Taylor Trust we are able to continue to give away hundreds of wheelchairs. Our goal is to make sure every person in southern Honduras who needs a wheelchair and cannot afford one is given a wheelchair! May God richly bless those who have helped us towards our goal!

The people begin to arrive and we seat them in the Hotel Flamingo hallway until all arrive.

Family and friends arrive to help those in need of wheelchairs.

You can tell by the happy look on my face how much I enjoy being able to bless these people.

He is happy with his new set of wheels!

Group photo! Note all the happy faces!

I love to watch as the people load their new chairs into taxis, trucks, trunks or just roll down the street to catch a bus! What a blessing to be able to participate in giving to the poor!

Have You Ever Told Your Kid Don't And They Did Anyway?

Have you ever told your son or daughter "Don't do that!" and they did it anyway? That happened today. I told Jose very clearly don't drive into the sand and he responded with the Spanish version of "you are a party pooper" and then he kept driving.

It was 100 degrees outside and thank God I had enough diesel in the car to sit in the air conditioning while he and several passerbys attempted to get the truck out of the sand.

Immediately I told him, "Go get a tow truck." But would he listen to me? Not a chance!

So he and several unknowns worked on getting the truck out of the sand for several hours before they finally gave up and went for a wrecker.

The wrecker was too far away to get back to the truck BEFORE THE TIDE came in, Jose finally decided to listen to me when the water started filling the holes where the truck was sitting.

So instead of a wrecker he came back with this!

I have no photos of getting pulled out, because the tractor had to pull the car up on a shrimp farm levy to keep it out of the water as the tide came in and guess who got elected to be in the car driving it during the tow job?

That's right MOM! I had to get him out of the mess that he got himself into.

I was really proud of myself, I didn't say, "I told you so!" At least not at the moment! Thank God there was a tractor close or my truck might have flooded. The water was about 3" from the door when we finally got towed out.

Oh what fun it is to have a MAN kid!

And did I say we were on our way to visit Jose's new beach property?

August 15 2009 Wheelchair Giveaway In Choluteca

Some of the Boy Scouts returned to finish putting the wheelchairs together.

I want you to look at these BEAUTIFUL faces.

Young faces!

Old faces!

Grinning faces!

Happy faces!

Extremely happy faces!

We have seat belts which were sent to us by Free Wheelchair Mission BUT WE HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM! Every time we give them away, everyone wants one. Everyone wants all the bells and whistles on their new “car”, just like at home. So we wait until everyone leaves EXCEPT for the few who really need the seat belts and then we give them to the few. Sometimes you have to know how to outfox the fox.

It always amazes me to watch the wheelchairs leaving after we have the group wheelchair giveaway. There are taxis, borrowed cars, buses and some even leave wheeling their loved ones down the street.
